Getting Started
What is CrewMate?
▼CrewMate is a social app exclusively for verified airline crew members — flight attendants, pilots, and captains. It helps you connect with other crew during layovers, discover crew-recommended restaurants and spots, create group plans, and build real friendships with people who understand crew life.
Our tagline says it all: for friends, not benefits.
Who can use CrewMate?
▼CrewMate is exclusively for current airline crew members. You must sign up with a valid airline email address (e.g., @aa.com, @united.com, @delta.com). We verify every account to keep the community crew-only. This is non-negotiable — it's what makes CrewMate a safe, trusted space.
How do I sign up?
▼iPhone: Download via TestFlight.
Android: Fill out the Android signup form with your Google Play email and we'll add you to the testing program.
Once you have the app, sign up with your airline email. Verification typically takes 1-2 minutes. Then set up your profile with your name, airline, position, and optional photo.
Is CrewMate free?
▼Yes! CrewMate is completely free during alpha testing and will remain free for at least the first year after launch. We want to build a strong community before ever thinking about monetization. No ads, no hidden fees.
Layovers & Check-ins
How do layovers work?
▼You can add layovers in two ways:
GPS Check-in: When you're physically in a city, use GPS to verify your location and check in. This confirms you're actually there (within ~50km).
Upcoming Layovers: If you know your schedule in advance, you can set future layovers with your arrival and departure dates. This is great for line holders who know their trips ahead of time.
Once you're on a layover, you can "Go Live" to make yourself discoverable to other crew in that city.
What does "Go Live" mean?
▼Going live means you're actively discoverable to other crew members in your layover city. Other crew can see that you're in town and reach out to connect. You control when you're live — you can go live and stop whenever you want. Your exact location is never shared; only the city you're in is visible.
I'm on reserve — can I still use CrewMate?
▼Absolutely! Reserve crew can use GPS check-in when they arrive at a layover city, even if they didn't know the trip in advance. You can also set an upcoming layover as soon as you get your assignment. CrewMate is designed for both line holders who plan ahead and reserve crew who find out same-day.
What happens to my layover data when I leave?
▼Expired layovers are automatically cleaned from active displays. You won't appear as "in" a city after your layover end date passes. Your past layovers are saved in your Crew Journey history so you can look back on where you've been, but they're not visible to other users.
Features
What are Spots?
▼Spots are crew-recommended places — restaurants, bars, coffee shops, gyms, attractions, and more. Any crew member can recommend a spot, and others can leave reviews and ratings. Think of it as Yelp, but only from people who actually know what it's like to have 14 hours in a city. Spots go through an admin review before appearing publicly.
What are Plans?
▼Plans are group activities you can create or join. Going to a great taco place tonight? Create a plan and let other crew in your city join. Plans include a title, description, location, date/time, and a built-in group chat so everyone can coordinate. Plans are automatically archived after they pass.
What are Crewfies?
▼Crewfies are photo posts in the activity feed — think of them as crew selfies from your layover adventures. Snap a pic at a cool spot, with new crew friends, or just a beautiful sunset from the hotel. It's a way to share your layover life with the community. If you start a crewfie and switch apps, your draft will be saved so you can come back to it later.
How do connections work?
▼When you find another crew member you'd like to connect with, send them a connection request. Once accepted, you can message each other directly. Connections persist across layovers so you can stay in touch with crew you've met, plan future meetups, and build lasting friendships.
Safety & Privacy
How is CrewMate different from dating apps?
▼CrewMate is specifically designed for platonic crew connections. Our tagline — "for friends, not benefits" — is baked into every feature decision. There are no swipe mechanics, no matching algorithms, and no romantic intent. It's about finding someone to grab dinner with on a layover, not a date. Romantic or sexual solicitation violates our Community Guidelines.
Can non-crew members see my profile?
▼No. Every account requires airline email verification. Only verified crew members can access the app and see profiles. Your full email address is never displayed — other users only see your first name, last initial, airline, and position.
Does CrewMate track my location continuously?
▼No. GPS is only used at the moment you check into a city, to verify you're actually there (within approximately 50km). We do not run background location tracking. Your exact coordinates are never stored or shared with other users — only the city name is visible.
How do I report someone?
▼Use the "Report a Problem" option in the app's menu (hamburger menu → Report a Problem), or email us directly at hello@crewmateapp.dev. All reports are reviewed by our team and kept confidential. We take safety seriously and will act quickly on any concerns.
Alpha Testing
What does "alpha testing" mean?
▼CrewMate is in the early testing phase before its official public launch (planned for June 2026). As an alpha tester, you're helping us find bugs, test features, and shape the app. Things might break or change — that's normal! Your feedback is incredibly valuable and directly influences what we build.
How do I give feedback or report a bug?
▼Three ways:
In the app: Open the menu and tap "Send Feedback" — this goes directly to our feedback system where you can describe bugs, request features, or share ideas.
Email: Send anything to hello@crewmateapp.dev
Direct message: If you know Zach, just message him — he's super responsive.
How do I invite other crew members?
▼Open the menu and tap "Invite Crew." You'll find share buttons for text, email, and more. The invite includes download links for both iPhone (TestFlight) and Android. The more crew we have, the better the experience for everyone!
Account & Data
How do I delete my account?
▼Go to Settings in the app and look for the "Delete Account" option. You can also email hello@crewmateapp.dev to request deletion. We process all deletion requests within 30 days. Once deleted, your profile and personal data are permanently removed.
I changed airlines — can I update my account?
▼Yes! If you've changed airlines, email us at hello@crewmateapp.dev with your new airline email and we'll help you update your account. You'll need to verify with your new airline email to maintain access.
